A Great Start to the New Year

This morning I woke up to the cold and drizzle to run in the New Year's Day 5k in Chicago. Thankfully, the weather broke for the race (except it was still really windy and cold), then flurries started up right after.

I've been dealing with a calf injury, so I kept my goals small: get there early enough to get a T-shirt, finish in under 30 minutes, and not to stop and walk (so as to complete #2). I told myself I'd consider it worth it if I got the first two, and hey, I got all 3. Even if I hadn't met my goals, I still would have had a really fun time; the atmosphere was great and everyone was really pumped.

Sadly, Dan had to work so he couldn't make it, hence the pictures of me that look like I took them myself...because I did.

Good morning Chicago!

Done! Yayyy!

I took this completely on accident, but you can see all the gear on my shoes: time chip on the left and Nike+ sensor on the right

Yay for goals! I'd like to improve, but being in the top 50% is ok for now, especially with a sad leg

Good job. I can't even do that uninjured. Someday I'll learn how to run...someday
